Radiological Detection

PSI is developing a prototype system that exploits the availability of low-cost tactical InstantEye to achieve standoff detection and identification of radiological or nuclear threats through the integration of compact detectors and small-scale electronics for high sensitivity gamma-ray sampling. The integration of PSI’s novel Poisson Clutter Split (PCS) algorithm as part of the capability offers enhanced isotope detection and identification sensitivity at the very low integration times needed for surveillance and area search missions. RADMAV provides true standoff detection in a small and covert detector package. In addition to homeland security applications (U.S. Customs, U.S. Coast Guard), RADMAV would be of benefit to the Department of Defense, the Department of Energy, and the International Atomic Energy Agency.
